I’ve been doing this for awhile and have had the opportunity to try out a few different text editors for development including but not limited to Notepad++, Atom and a couple others but so far I keep coming back to Brackets for the majority of my coding needs.
I recently moved to Mac so this may change but when I was on a PC and Windows 10, I wasn’t able to get any of the beautify extensions to work in Atom and didn’t really care for the Windows standard look of Notepad++. I like the UI of Sublime Text but the cost is of less interest to me when I can use something open source and for free.
If you are looking for something that just works and has a lot of extensions, I would recommend Brackets found at brackets.io for a great experience that just works.
Now that I have a Mac I will be giving Atom another try because I really did like the UI maybe just a bit more than Brackets but both are very on the level.
